Web design process
I design each web site specifically for each client. The web design process involves you at several stages so that you get a site that achieves your objectives – and a site you're absolutely happy with!
Initial briefing
- discuss your objectives for the web design project
- discuss how visitors will find the site (search engines and other sources)
- discuss how the site fits with your other marketing activities
- discuss and agree key search engine phrases
- discuss which social networks are important to your business
- discuss the extent to which users might access the site on mobile devices e.g. iPhones and other smart phones, iPads and other tablets
- review usability and accessibility issues
- review current web site (if any)
- review existing corporate identity, logo, letterhead, marketing literature, colour schemes
- discuss domain names
- discuss web hosting and email requirements
Proposal
- produce a written proposal outlining the type of site proposed and the fee for the work
- your signed approval required before work commences
Layouts
- generally produce layouts of at least 2 pages (e.g. home page and one other)
- these will show:
- web page layout
- navigation
- colour scheme and link colours
- present these to you together with site structure proposals, discuss them with you and incorporate your feedback in amended layouts if necessary
- your signed approval required before work continues (any subsequent changes to site structure, navigation or page layout will incur additional costs)
Web site build
- you will supply all copy, photography, illustrations, maps and other material for the site, unless we have agreed otherwise
- produce all the web pages
- add traffic monitoring (e.g. Google Analytics)
- validate the XHTML and CSS and check the accessibility of the site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
- test the site in a range of web browsers
- put the site live on a private, password-protected site for you to review
- discuss the site again with you and make minor amendments as agreed
Go live
- when you are happy with the site, put it live on a public web server
- submit the site to the major search engines
Review
- at some time after go-live, review the site and search engine performance with you
- submit proposal for any additional work required
